ENGLAND suffered another scare on the eve of Euro 2012 as Ashley Cole picked up a stomach bug.

The Chelsea left-back missed training in Poland yesterday and remained in the team hotel last night while the rest of the squad attended a Krakow civic function.

England’s medical staff will assess Cole, 31, before deciding whether he is able to train this morning.

The defender is still expected to face France in Donetsk on Monday but his absence from training will not have helped Roy Hodgson’s plans to ensure his back four is organised ahead of the tough clash with Les Bleus.

One player certain to miss the Euro 2012 opener is Jermain Defoe.

The Tottenham striker flew home yesterday following the death of his father but will return for the second group match against Sweden in Kiev a week today.

Yet boss Hodgson was boosted by John Terry completing a full training session.

And last night the Chelsea centre-back declared: “I’m fit.”

England train in Krakow today and tomorrow before flying to Donetsk on Sunday.
