COME AGAIN ... Joe is heading back to Anfield

JOE COLE is heading back to Liverpool — according to the man who resurrected his career.

Midfield schemer Cole, 30, spent last season on loan at French outfit Lille, whom he helped to third place in League 1.

Yet despite proving a huge hit, boss Rudi Garcia has revealed that the former England ace is returning to Anfield.

Cole will try to prove himself again in his homeland under new Kop boss Brendan Rodgers.

The Mastiffs would have loved to have kept Cole in France, but his £100,000-plus weekly wages made that dream impossible.

Garcia admitted: “Cole will stay at Liverpool — the new staff has decided to keep him.

“We will keep very good memories of the player but also of the man.”

Cole joined Liverpool on a free from Chelsea two years ago but his first season on Merseyside was a nightmare.

Yet Rodgers had already hinted Cole and fellow loanee Alberto Aquilani — who spent last term with AC Milan — will get the chance to prove themselves again at Anfield.

Former Chelsea reserve-team boss Rodgers, who left Swansea to sign a three-year contract to replace Kenny Dalglish last week, revealed: “I know Joe well from my time at Stamford Bridge and he’s a wonderful talent.”
