Colorado Rapids eager to fix problems despite three points

After the final whistle, both teams left the field frustrated: Montreal Impact disheartened with the officiating, and the Rapids disappointed with their own -- winning -- performance.

A 3-2 home win couldn't satisfy Colorado, which knows better organization will be needed to collect three points in the future.

"It’s just poor defending," captain Drew Moor said. "It comes through the midfield too easily, and it came through the defense too easily.

“To be fair, Montreal overloaded the midfield and we were outnumbered in there for large periods of the game. They were able to open us up a couple times."

Moor got his own name on the scoresheet, but it's the goals at the other end of the field which will bother him.

"Both goals by them were good finishes," the Texas native said. "There is nothing [goalkeeper Matt] Pickens can do about either of them. He’s left out to dry, and we need to do a better job of keeping their attack in front of us. We are allowing guys in behind and beside, and it needs to be cleaned up. It’s frustrating.”

Although unhappy with their performance, the Rapids are content to earn three points after being down a man for the last third of the match. Pickens brushed off the manner in which the three points came.

“It was huge,” he said. “We want three points at home every time we come here. We are letting goals in at home which we need to stop doing. In the hole that we were in last week, and then again this week, we showed some character in both games, and in this one we came out on top. It’s something to build on. We still have a ton of work to do, but the guys put in a lot of effort.”

Jeff Larentowicz scored a penalty in the first half he thought should have killed off the game.

“We are still doing so many things that kill ourselves,” Larentowicz said. “Getting three points makes it easier to cope with those. It’s good to have things to fix when you have three points in your pocket.”
