Denmark take stock after Brazil defeat

Denmark took some consolation from the quality of their opponents after losing 3-1 to Brazil in Hamburg, with right-back Daniel Wass noting: "My God, they were good."

The 22-year-old Wass was in the first XI for his fifth international appearance as two Hulk goals left the UEFA EURO 2012 contenders reeling in Germany. However, with 40,000 Danish fans in the stands, many of whom had made the short journey across the German border, Wass was keen to point out the positives. "It was great," said the Évian Thonon Gaillard FC player. "It felt like a home game even though it was in another country. The crowd was amazing."

Wass conceded that Lars Jacobsen was likely to be Denmark's first-choice right-back at UEFA EURO 2012, but he was delighted to have had an opportunity to tackle such impressive opponents. "My God, they were good," he said. "Of course, we were sad to lose the match, but we can learn from this as the Brazilians play a lot like some of the teams we'll be facing at the EURO – the Netherlands, Germany and Portugal. So this experience was good for us."

Goalkeeper Stephan Andersen, meanwhile, picked up his ninth cap after Thomas Sørensen had to be replaced due to a back injury with just 24 minutes gone. "It was a little hectic, coming on in the middle of the first half, but I was just happy to play," said Andersen, who plies his trade alongside Wass at Évian. "I'm ready to play if [Denmark coach] Morten Olsen chooses me, but first of all we will have to see how Thomas gets on."

Should Sørensen be ruled out, Olsen will face a choice between Andersen and Manchester United FC's Anders Lindegaard for Denmark's goalkeeping duties at UEFA EURO 2012. The Danes take on Australia in their last pre-EURO friendly at Copenhagen's Parken Stadion next Saturday.
