Pieth urges FIFA to seize opportunity for change

BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) FIFA's top anti-corruption adviser has warned world soccer nations against wasting ''a brilliant opportunity'' to rid the governing body of mismanagement after months of turmoil.
Mark Pieth says FIFA should prevent financial abuses and other wrongdoings by creating whistleblowers' hotline. It should also conduct integrity checks on senior officials and make their salaries public as part of reform efforts by FIFA President Sepp Blatter.
The governing body is set to approve limited changes during Friday's meeting. It will not decide on most proposals for reform until next year.
Blatter said Friday's deliberations will restore ''tranquility and stability'' to FIFA. He added soccer's governing authority will not be ''cherry-picking'' changes after a year of bribery scandals and allegations of mismanagement against senior officials.
