Barcelona keeper Valdes wins Zamora trophy

Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes has won this season's Ricardo Zamora trophy after being crowned the goalkeeper with the best goals-to-games ratio in La Liga.

The Spanish shot-stopper conceded just 28 league goals throughout 2011-12, despite seeing the ball evade him twice in the 2-2 draw with Real Betis on Saturday, to net himself his fourth straight personal triumph.

The feat means Valdes is now on par with legendary former Blaugrana goalkeeper Antoni Ramallets, who previously set the current record of five Zamora trophies between 1947 and 1962.

Coach Pep Guardiola had originally planned to start reserve goalkeeper Jose Manuel Pinto against Betis, but his sprained ankle forced the outgoing boss to name Valdes in his starting XI.

The 30-year-old's success means he has now surpassed former Valencia goalkeeper Santiago Canizares and ex-Deportivo custodian Juan Acuna in Zamora history.
