AVB must be miffed

ANDRE VILLAS-BOAS must be sitting there scratching his head.
And wondering what the hell is going on.
The former Chelsea boss was brought in to create a totally new on and off-field philosophy at Stamford Bridge.
To slowly pension off the old-timers, bring on the new talent, play a more disciplined and modern game and point them towards the future. And what’s happened?
Out on the pitch, the Blues have gone back to square one under his successor.
The result? Chelsea are in the middle of one of the most uplifting runs the club has known and through to the Champions League and FA Cup finals.
Eureka!
And, at the heart of it all, is Juan Mata, AVB’s headline signing.
Villas-Boas could be excused for sending the following text to Roman Abramovich:
If you had wanted me to leave it alone, why didn’t you tell me?
Instead, Roberto Di Matteo has come in, got the boys on his side, reverted to the old hit-and-run routine, had some luck at times... and been hailed a genius.
It’s a funny, old game.
When AVB took Chelsea to Loftus Road last October, Jose Bosingwa and Didier Drogba were sent off, seven booked and the Blues lost 1-0.
It was a time when dressing-room unrest was at its height, when Fernando Torres couldn’t buy a goal and looked as unlikely to fill Drogba’s boots as the manager himself.
