Major League Soccer has announced that the latest winner of its Player of the Week award is D.C. United forward Chris Pontius after he netted a hat trick against the New York Red Bulls on Sunday.
It is only the second time in five years of voting by the North American Soccer Reporters that a player was picked unanimously. It is also the third time he has won the award in three seasons with D.C.
Pontius, 24, has spent his entire career with D.C. United after the Eastern Conference club drafted him seventh overall in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft.
He's gone on to make 78 appearances for the Red and Black, scoring 17 goals in the process.
