Stenhousemuir boosted their Scottish Second Division play-off hopes with a 2-1 win over Brechin.

The hosts took the lead in the 17th minute when Iain Thomson was well placed to volley home from Kevin McKinlay's cross.

City struggled to find a way into the game, and had it not been for some wasteful finishing they could have been further behind.

Andy Rodgers twice went close but failed to test visiting keeper Craig Nelson.

The visitors' best chance of the half fell to Rory McKenzie who could only fire over the crossbar.

But Grant Anderson doubled the advantage on the hour mark as their dominance paid off, poking the ball over the line following a scramble in the area.

James Lister pulled a goal back eight minutes from time when he collected McKenzie's pass before finishing from close range.
