SPOT ON ... Brad Jones saves Yakubu's penalty
Liverpool had led with two goals from Maxi Rodriguez but Yakubu struck twice to level for Rovers.
Kop boss Kenny Dalglish paid tribute to Jones. He said: “His first contribution in the league for us is to save a penalty.
“I’m sure he will remember that. There is no problem whatsoever with playing him at Wembley.”
Aussie Jones also conceded a penalty as he pulled back Yakubu but was only shown a yellow.
Dalglish may now have to put 17-year-old rookie Tyrell Belford on the bench at Wembley.
It was also a night to remember for £35million signing Carroll, who nodded the injury-time winner.
Carroll said: “It shows the fight we have. It is great for the lads to go on to Wembley and hopefully make it to the final.”
Rovers boss Steve Kean was fuming over Carroll’s goal as Grant Hanley was impeded by Martin Skrtel.
Kean said: “I think it is a cruel ending. Hanley is trying to get up and Skrtel pulls him down so he can’t get back up to get to the centre of the goal.”
