Dundee failed to halt Ross County's promotion to the Scottish Premier League after being held 1-1 by Queen of the South.

Chances were at a premium in the first half with neither side able to create many opportunities.

Ryan Conroy could have put the hosts ahead in the 14th minute but his goalbound header was cleared by Chris Higgins.

The visitors quickly responded and Robert Douglas produced a fine save to tip Daniel Carmichael's drive round a post.

But it was the hosts who took the lead eight minutes after the restart, Stephen O'Donnell's superb long-range drive leaving Higgins with no chance.

However, John Potter rose highest to head home Carmichael's cross eight minutes from time to shatter the Dee's hopes of automatic promotion.
