Real Mallorca and Granada moved a point further clear of the Primera Division relegation zone after a forgettable goalless draw at the Iberostar.

Michael Pereira came closest to breaking the deadlock for the hosts as his dipping volley from outside the area clipped the top of the crossbar just after the hour mark.

Granada improved as an attacking force in the final quarter, but they were unable to replicate their late winner at Racing Santander last weekend as Dudu Aouate comfortably turned away efforts from Abel Gomez and Franco Jara.

With Real Zaragoza, Sporting Gijon and Villarreal having already lost this weekend, there was an opportunity for either side to put extra distance between themselves and the bottom three, but neither appeared desperate to take the game by the scruff of the neck in a dull opening period.

Aouate did well to race off his line to deny Ikechukwu Uche who was bearing down on goal, whilst at the other end Pereira's tame effort was easily claimed by Julio Cesar.

The tempo improved slightly after the break and Pereira came within inches of a spectacular opener as his fierce effort from distance beat Cesar, but flicked the top of the woodwork on its way over.

That warning seemed to force the visitors on to the front foot, but despite some neat approach play they were restricted to taking shots from distance.

One such effort from Abel Gomez's free-kick did force Aouate into a smart save, whilst Victor Casadesus was also denied by Cesar on a rare foray forward by Mallorca in the final minutes.

Aouate had to make one final save in stoppage time as Franco Jara inadvertently turned Uche's cross toward goal, but the Israeli turned the ball behind to ensure the Islanders moved nine points clear of the drop zone, with Granada two points behind in 16th.
