Morton will be without an entire defence through injury and suspension as they look to all but secure their First Division survival by beating Queen of the South.

Captain Stuart McCaffrey remains sidelined with a heel problem and he is joined this week by the suspended trio of Marc Smyth, Ross Forsyth and Grant Evans.

Peter Weatherson is available after a ban and he will play at the back, with manager Allan Moore saying: "It is an unfortunate way to go into this game after keeping two clean sheets.

"Queen of the South have been a bit of a bogey team to us this season so getting a win will put that right and have us looking upwards in the table again."

Queen of the South manager Gus McPherson has named the same squad that defeated Ayr last weekend for the trip, with only long-term absentees Marc McCusker and Kevin Smith missing out.

The rock-bottom Doonhamers closed the gap on the sides above them with last Saturday's success and McPherson is determined that they do not stop now, regardless of the task they face in Greenock.

The Palmerston Park boss said: "Last week was a must win but we were at home against a team close to us and we came through it.

"This is an even tougher task as Morton have had two good consecutive results, but if we can hit the form we showed last week, particularly in the first half, we can do well."
