Maradona caught in amazing ruck after fans jeer at wife
WAS THE MATTER? ... Diego was caught in Al Wasl fan row

Maradona was caught in an amazing ruck after he confronted fans during a UAE Pro-League match this weekend.

The Argie legend let rip at supporters and was joined on the terraces by his players. He had to be restrained by police.

Hot-head Maradona is boss of the oil-rich Dubai-based side and went on to call the fans "cowards" on local news.

Yet Maradona will not face any action for charging into the stands — with Al Wasl instead issuing a grovelling apology to HIM.

A club spokesman said: "The management of Al Wasl Football Company denounce the harassment suffered by the family and guests of Diego Maradona.

"A few irresponsible fans verbally abused Maradona's wife and his guests during the match."

AL WASL have told Diego Maradona 'you did the decent thing' — after he steamed into the crowd to protect his wife.

The club's acting chief executive officer, Abdullah Al-Bishr, added: "Al Wasl Football Company finds Maradona's behaviour understandable, when he went into the stands to protect his wife and guests.

"It is what any honourable person would do.

"We offer our sincere apologies to Maradona for what took place on behalf of the few who offended UAE culture by their actions.

"This is a society, which by its very nature, does not insult women by cursing and harassing, but is brought up to treat them with respect."

Al Wasl lost the clash 2-0 to Al Shabbab — who then incredibly claimed that Maradona's wife started the brawl by abusing their Brazilian match-winner Jociel Ferreira da Silva.

Al Shabbab vice-president Bu Humaid said: "The wife of Maradona and her friends verbally abused one of our players as he was leaving the pitch, he's a Brazilian and they are Argentinian and they hate one another.

"Some fans tried to calm them down and tell them it is not acceptable to insult the player.

"Things escalated and both parties started yelling at each other. The wife of Maradona was swearing and the women were throwing water bottles at fans and police.

"After things calmed down, the chairman of Al Shabab went into the Al Wasl dressing room to apologise on behalf of the club, but Maradona abused the chairman in Spanish.

"We didn't understand, but it was clear from his body language that he was swearing at the chairman."
