Bayern Munich to battle Man United for Benfica star

Bayern Munich have joined the race to sign Manchester United target Nico Gaitan.

United have been extensively linked with a move for the Benfica winger, who impressed against them in this season's Champions League.

It has also been reported that the Premier League champions have already made a £20m bid for the 24-year-old as they attempt to get the deal done before Euro 2012.

But now Portuguese newspaper O Jogo has revealed that Bayern Munich have entered the running for Gaitan and had scouts in attendance when he faced Chelsea on Tuesday night.

Bayern have already beaten United to the signing of Xherdan Shaqiri, the Swiss winger who Sir Alex Ferguson admires, and now they want to do the same with Gaitan.

But it has been reported that Benfica are not considering bids less than £25m.
