We can turn Scroo on City
ROO ARE MY HERO ... in-form Wayne hails scorer Antonio Valencia

Rooney failed to score for the first time in five games in the Molineux romp. But he did not need to as Antonio Valencia, Danny Welbeck, Javier Hernandez — twice — and Jonny Evans stepped up to the plate for the Red Devils.

Rooney admitted United knew at half-time they had a goal-den opportunity to slash their Manchester neighbours' superior goal difference and pile even more pressure on them — with 10-man Wolves lambs to the slaughter.

City now face Chelsea on Wednesday night, four points behind United.

And Rooney said: "Wolves got the man sent off and we took advantage of that, got the goal quickly, and from there the game was dead.

"We still had to go out there and be professional and try to get more goals and we managed to do that.

"You always want to score yourself, but we scored five as a team and I'm delighted for Danny and Chicharito to get on the scoresheet. It's great that others are scoring goals too and it can only be good for the team. We knew it was a chance to score goals.

"We came in at half-time and spoke about it — we wanted to push on and score more goals. We got an extra two in the second half so we are pleased with the result."

After their Euro blip in Bilbao the Reds resumed normal service.

They strolled it against a Wolves side who had Ronald Zubar sent off as they plunged to the foot of the Premier League.

United have now taken 25 points from a possible 27 and Rooney believes that is title-winning form.

He said: "I've said before that we are playing really well in the Premier League, some great stuff, and we're getting the results we need."

But for new Wolves boss Terry Connor it was another bad day at the office. He saw his side drop to rock-bottom but vowed they would claw their way to survival.

He said: "When we were 3-0 down with 10 men at half-time we didn't want to concede six, seven or eight and have everyone say that's the end of our season.

"I thought the lads did brilliantly in the second half to limit it to two goals. My message to the players and to everyone is to keep believing."

To complete Wolves' misery, midfielder David Davis suffered a cracked rib and is likely to be sidelined for several weeks.
