BARCELONA, Spain (AP)—Malaga took hold of Spain’s last Champions League spot through a 1-0 win over Levante thanks to Jose Rondon’s second-half header on Saturday.
Malaga dominated possession through the first half at La Rosaleda stadium before the Venezuela striker flicked Joaquin Sanchez’s free kick beyond Levante goalkeeper Gustavo Munua in the 51st minute for his seventh goal of the season.
Malaga’s third straight victory provisionally lifted the Costa del Sol side into fourth place— two points clear of Levante.
Also, Imanol Agirretxe scored a double to help Real Sociedad beat last-place Zaragoza 3-0.
Leader Real Madrid seeks a club record 10th straight away victory in league play at Real Betis later, while Sevilla visits Sporting Gijon.
