Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes Jack Wilshere could make a comeback before the end of the season despite fears the midfielder would miss the entirety of the campaign.
The England international has missed every game this season after injuring his ankle during preseason in a friendly game against the New York Red Bulls.
Wilshere returned to training in January before facing another setback, suffering a stress-fracture in his right-foot.
However, his manager is confident the 20-year-old can now step up his recovery but is wary of rushing him back too quickly.
Wenger said: "We have good news on Jack but he is not close to comeback. The last scan was good and he can start to jog again so he is on the way back – but we have to be very cautious with him."
Asked if the midfielder might be back before the end of the season, the Frenchman added: "I hope, but we go step by step."
The news of Wilshere’s return to fitness will also be a boost to England ahead of its Euro 2012 campaign in Poland and the Ukraine.
