Borini receives first Italy callup for US friendly

MILAN (AP)—Roma striker Fabio Borini has been called into the Italy squad for the first time for the friendly against the United States, however Manchester City forward Mario Balotelli has been left out.
Balotelli’s omission for Wednesday’s match is no great surprise as Italy coach Cesare Prandelli has hinted he may even opt not to take the former Inter Milan striker to the European Championship later this year.
The 20-year-old Borini now has a great chance to stake a claim for his place in the squad for Poland and Ukraine.
Borini scored his seventh goal of the season on Sunday but it was not enough to prevent Roma losing 4-1 at Atalanta.
Palermo goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano returns to the squad after being injured for the first half of the season.
