New Queen of the South striker Sam Parkin is included in manager Gus McPherson's squad for the first time in their home contest with Morton.

The former St Johnstone forward will feature at some stage as Kevin Smith and Marc McCusker remain out with knocks and they are joined on the sidelines by the suspended Craig Reid and Stephen McKenna.

McPherson said: "We are delighted to have Sam here as he offers us a physical presence up front that we have been missing."

After picking up draws against Ross County and Livingston, McPherson is looking for his men to grab a win against the Greenock men and added: "We have had a number of solid performances recently but it would be nice to turn that into three points."

Morton were dealt a blow on the eve of the game with the news young defender Thomas O'Ware has been ruled out with a shin injury.

Allan Moore's resources at the back are already stretched with Ross Forsyth still not over his hamstring injury and Stuart McCaffrey ruled out long term with a heel complaint to leave The Ton boss hoping Grant Evans comes through a fitness test.

Morton will be looking for revenge after their 4-1 defeat at Palmerston back in September and Moore said: "We did not play well at all on that day but we have the chance to make up for it.

"It would be great to have Grant available although he has only a 50/ 50 chance of making it."
