Levante vs Mallorca preview - No fresh faces for Levante

Levante manager Juan Ignacio Martinez has said he is unlikely to add to his squad this month despite being hit by a number of injuries and suspensions.

Los Granotes' fine start to the season means they went into the new year in fourth place, four points clear of nearest challengers Osasuna, but will have to do without joint top goalscorer Juanlu for the next four months after he broke his fibula.

Martinez told a press conference broadcast on the club's website: "There is a sporting plan in place for the whole year. That is based on our figures and I am happy with my group of players. I am not the person to ask anything from the club."

Levante will also be without Javi Venta and Nano for this weekend's game against Real Mallorca due to suspension, while Valdo is also doubtful with a muscle strain.

"They are players who play regularly and it will be a handicap for this match," Martinez said. "However we have the squad to compete and look for alternatives."

There was also some good news for Martinez as Arouna Kone was not included in the Ivory Coast squad for the African Nations Cup on Thursday.

Mallorca boss Joaquin Caparros was furious with his side's performance in the 2-0 defeat to Real Sociedad in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday but is hoping the disappointment from that defeat will spur a reaction in his players.

He told the club's website: "I am not the only one who is angry, the players are too. We need to improve, the second half of the season is just about to start and there is very little between a lot of the sides. We can't squander any match from now on because if we do we could live to regret it."

Caparros was also full of praise for the Islanders' opponents this weekend.

"Levante have a group of very demanding players that have adapted to the club's way of doing things, they give 100% and what they are doing is marvellous," he said.

Marvin Ogunjimi could make his Mallorca debut now that his transfer from Genk has officially gone through, but Pablo Caceres misses out through suspension.
