Two signings and who knows?

IF you'd told me six months ago that my Spurs side would be right in the mix for the title, I'd have laughed.

And if we could find a couple of new faces to improve us even further over the next month, then who knows where this season could take us?

I'm not about to say the Premier League is coming to Tottenham because there are still so many who could have a big say.

And it doesn't take a genius to point out that Manchester City are still red-hot favourites, while anyone ready to write off United needs their head looking at.

City have so much quality in every position — Sergio Aguero, David Silva and Yaya Toure would get in virtually any side in the world — and United have been there so many times before.

But we'll know better where we stand by the end of January — it could be a crucial month for us.

We've got a lot of home games but, although people will look at Everton, Wolves and Wigan and think they're three bankers, they will push us all the way.

They said the same about West Brom this week — and they put up a heck of a fight before we edged it. And, of course, on January 22 we've got a massive trip to City — and my only hope is that a few of our injuries have cleared up by then.

If anything is going to throw a spanner in the works for us, that's it, because at the moment we have only got a couple of fit central midfielders, while William Gallas is struggling too.

Young Jake Livermore has done fantastically for us and we all know how good Luka Modric is.

I've just got my fingers crossed that we don't get any more knocks because that could hurt us. It would cause big problems.

But at least being up there at this stage isn't an unknown factor to us, because over the last few years we have been around fourth or fifth at the halfway stage.

It's a sign of how tough the Premier League is that we haven't finished above Arsenal before, for all we have improved, and Chelsea, Liverpool, possibly even Newcastle, still have hopes of the top four.

The problem we have now when we look for players is that the better you get, the more difficult it is to find someone who will take you even higher.

Believe me, there aren't that many out there — but we won't fall down on that score through a lack of looking.

And although I don't like losing any games, I do feel that going out of the Europa League could definitely work in our favour.

Whether we are good enough to win the title or not, I don't know.

But if that proves beyond us, getting into the Champions League is a huge target.

We had a great run a couple of years back and, once you've had a taste of being in there with the big guns, you only want more.

We are only halfway through and it's up to us to make sure we keep that going.

If we can, then it really could be a season to remember.

Don't think I am writing off the FA Cup — far from it.

We're very much on a hiding to nothing when Cheltenham come to White Hart Lane tomorrow, and that won't be as easy as people think.

But we'd love to go on a run and I'd hope the side I put out is good enough to go through.
