Jonathan Tiffoney's second-half header helped rock-bottom Ayr claim a 1-1 draw with fellow strugglers Raith.

The hosts had won all three fixtures between the two teams this season and although they fell behind to John Baird's strike, Tiffoney ensured the spoils were shared.

The opening half was a quiet affair in which neither side could fashion any meaningful chances but Baird gave Rovers the lead three minutes before the interval with a low finish from David Smith's left-wing cross.

Substitute Mark Roberts' header was saved by Raith goalkeeper David McGurn as Ayr tried to fight back and their attacking intent was rewarded when Ryan Connolly's centre from the left was headed home by Tiffoney just after the hour.

Another Roberts header produced a wonderful save from McGurn, who also had to tip away Andrew Geggan's 35-yard strike to ensure the visitors claimed a valuable point in their battle for safety.
