Xavi: Busquets is an extraordinary player

Barcelona midfield maestro Xavi believes that the club’s three-year trophy laden spell would not have been possible without the “extraordinary” Sergio Busquets.

The Catalan side once again underlined their credentials as the best footballing side on the planet with a swashbuckling 4-0 victory over Neymar's Santos to claim their second FIFA Club World Cup haul in just three years.

Lionel Messi stole the show in the Messi vs Neymar battle with a brilliant double while Xavi and Cesc Fabregas notched up strikes to send the Brazilian outfit packing empty-handed from Japan.

While Barcelona's attacking triumvirate once again drew plaudits for their stupendous displays. Xavi remarked that midfield destroyer Busquets deserves to be put on a pedestal for his sterling efforts for the past three seasons.

"Without Busquets we could never had achieved what we have achieved," the 31-year-old Spaniard told reporters after the encounter.

"He is an extraordinary player who is never wrong."

"The key was the possession of the ball,"

"The coach worked out the tactics wonderfully; we just had put it into practice."

"We were looking for superiority in the field. We played with two forwards, with Cesc and Messi coming from the middle of the field, and also the wingers, who occupy the middle defenders. It is a way of trying to gain superiority."

"We took away the control of the game from Santos. We had the possession and the philosophy of Barcelona was clearly presented: football players raised in the club who play great football."

"It's amazing what we are experiencing. Today we clearly dominated Santos. They had two or three opportunities on fast breaks but the game was always controlled by us."

Xavi's colleague Andres Iniesta intimated that the Nou Camp side dominating proceedings from start to finish, although he also paid tribute to custodian Victor Valdes.

"We played a very good game," Iniesta said.

"We created chance and opportunities we have tried to leave them without chances"

"In those moments when they did have opportunities, Victor was fantastic."

Argentina skipper Javier Mascherano was spellbound by the display of his compatriot Messi, conceding, "He is a player like no other. He is a player who I hope that history will judge [as the greatest]."

Barcelona will now tackle L'Hospitalet in Thursday's Copa del Rey clash before their much needed sojourn in the form of the traditional winter break.
