Lyon midfielder Ederson insists his side can overcome the odds and reach the knockout stages of the Champions League against Dinamo Zagreb.

Remi Garde's side are in danger of not advancing from the group stage for the first time since the 2003-03 season, and they will need a handsome win at Stadion Maksimir if they are to have any hope of progressing from Group D.

The French side trail second-placed Ajax by three points after playing out the second of two goalless draws between the sides in the last round of games.

To compound matters Lyon are also seven goals worse off in terms of goal difference and will need group leaders Real Madrid to do them a favour when they face the Dutch side in Amsterdam.

But Brazilian midfielder Ederson insists OL still have every chance of going through.

He told the club website: "Wednesday will be a very tough match in the Champions League, but we are going to win and Madrid can win against Ajax. Nothing is impossible in football, we will give everything in this next game."

Team-mate Jean-Michel Aulas added: "We are in a position where we know that Real Madrid are very strong and they can win against Ajax. That would give us the chance to do something beautiful.

"Dropping down into the Europa League does not scare me at all, but we all know that playing in the Champions League is wonderful."

Dinamo, meanwhile, are already consigned to finishing bottom of the section after losing all five of their games to date, including their 6-2 hammering at the hands of Real Madrid last time out.

But defender Domagoj Vida says they can end their European campaign on a high, if they can cut out the errors that have blighted them thus far.

He told the Dinamo website: "The three teams that we have played against have proven to be difficult opponents. There was Ajax, then Real, who were especially good in Madrid, and then Lyon.

"But we gave away two stupid goals when we played Lyon in France and hopefully the three points will be ours."
