Chievo and Atalanta cancelled each other out in a goalless draw at the Marc' Antonio Bentegodi stadium.
There were chances for both sides but neither could break the deadlock and earn a win that would have seen them climb into the top half of the Serie A standings.
The result left Chievo in 11th place, one point clear of Atalanta.
The strikers were to blame as the goalkeepers were rarely called upon, despite plenty of sights on goal.
Atalanta's Carlos Carmona was the first man to fire off target, with his 12-yard strike going over the bar.
Chievo, looking to bounce back from last weekend's 4-0 defeat at AC Milan, had a pair of chances before the half-hour mark.
Sergio Pellissier got his head to Davide Moscardelli's cross and his five-yard effort went over the bar.
Shortly after, Pellissier wasted another great chance when he could not get his 12-yard effort on target as it sailed wide of the far post.
Before half-time, Simone Padoin tried his luck from distance but his attempt also went wide.
Chievo goalkeeper Stefano Sorrentino finally made the first save of the match early in the second half, keeping out German Denis' right-footed volley from the edge of the area.
Pellissier should have broken the deadlock shortly after the hour mark but he headed Boukary Drame's cross just inches over the bar.
With 15 minutes remaining, Atalanta goalkeeper Andrea Consigli kept out Pellissier's powerful header as both teams settled for a point in Verona.
