FOOTIE fans are furious after a council failed to tell them Man United legend Paul Scholes had pulled out of a Christmas lights switch-on.

The ex-England ace gave a week's notice that he could not make it.

But the council website continued to plug his appearance — and fans hoping for photos and autographs were left disappointed.

They had to settle for local team mascot Chaddy the Griffin at the event outside Chadderton Town Hall, Oldham, Gtr Manchester.

One dad said on a website: "We only went to see Scholesy. My kids were really upset."

Scholes, 37, agreed last July to attend, but had to cancel due to a clash of events. A council spokesman said an email telling them was only picked up the afternoon before the switch-on.
