A stray bullet hit a car carrying Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) president Ricardo Teixeira and his wife, local press announced on Saturday.
None of the people inside the vehicle were hurt.
Local newspaper O Globo reported that the car was hit while Teixeira, 64, was travelling down an avenue in Rio de Janeiro.
"Fortunately, the car was armoured," said the paper in their online edition.
"Had it not been, (the bullet) could have hit the back seat."
Teixeira has been president of the CBF since 1989 and is also in charge of the organisation of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Rio state authorities face a race against time to clamp down on violence in the most dangerous areas of the city in time for the World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympics.
