England WAGs will be welcomed to Krakow with open arms

THE England WAGs will be welcomed to Euro 2012 with open arms and told: You'll love it in Krakow.

Boss Fabio Capello has made the historic Polish city the base for The Three Lions' assault on the finals next summer.

And the Mayor of Krakow, Jacek Majchrowski said: "We will prepare a special programme for the wives and partners so they can enjoy it.

"We have plenty of opportunities — there are a lot of restaurants and nightclubs.

"There are all sorts of shops. If they would like to buy a beautiful fur, there are plenty of shops they can visit."

It was felt the 2006 World Cup in Germany was derailed by the presence of the WAGs and their party lifestyle in the town of Baden Baden.

But, after billeting the players out in the wilds in South Africa at the World Cup last year to keep them away from distractions, the FA and Capello have decided on a less remote approach.

The team have a boutique hotel near the main square and the WAGs will have free rein to roam.

They will even be allowed into the team hotel after games and on days off.

The Dutch and Italians are also making Krakow their base.

Adrian Bevington, managing director of Club England, said: "It's up to Fabio, he will determine it with the players.

"It's a big city, there's numerous hotels and from what Fabio has said he won't have a problem with the players meeting up with their families in free time.

"The players will be encouraged to take alternative clothing to the football branded tracksuits and polo shirts so they have more freedom when they are out and about.

"We can all refer to 2006. I'd like to think we're not walking into another situation like that."
