GLASGOW, Scotland (AP)—A Rangers player will go on trial in February charged with making alleged sectarian remarks during a night out.
Goalkeeper Grant Adam—the brother of Liverpool and Scotland midfielder Charlie Adam—is alleged to have committed the offense early on Sunday morning in Glasgow.
Adam, who is third-choice goalkeeper at Rangers, denied the charge when he appeared at a Glasgow court on Monday. He was released on bail and will appear back in court on Jan. 25 ahead of a trial on Feb. 10.
Rangers is traditionally supported by the Protestant community in Glasgow and has an intense rivalry with Celtic, which is followed by the Catholic community.
Rangers has been fined on a number of occasions by UEFA for sectarian chanting by fans.
