Lazio beat Parma 1-0 at the Stadio Olimpico to join Udinese at the top of Serie A.

Substitute Giuseppe Sculli scored the only goal of the game six minutes from time to hand the Romans all three points.

The result has lifted Lazio level on 21 points with Udinese, who won 2-1 against Siena.

Parma were unlucky not to go in front before the break with Jonathan Biabiany's header finding the woodwork after Lazio's Senad Lulic had earlier been denied by the crossbar.

The Romans went into the game on the back of a midweek 1-0 triumph over FC Zurich - their first win in Group D in the Europa League.

A minute's silence was observed prior to the start in memory of the six people killed in Liguria due to flash floods this weekend.

Sebastian Giovinco had the first sight of goal for the visitors after 11 minutes but blasted his 15-yard strike just wide.

Shortly after Lazio goalkeeper Federico Marchetti kept out Graziano Pelle's bullet strike from outside the area.

Lazio had a great chance to go in front in the 19th minute.

Djibril Cisse got his head behind Hernanes' cross from the left and his effort went over the crossbar.

The hosts continued to push for the opener and were almost rewarded.

Lulic's header from Abdoulay Konko's cross struck the crossbar with Parma goalkeeper Antonio Mirante already beaten.

Lazio nearly fell behind just before half time, when Biabiany headed a corner against the post for Parma.

Lazio controlled possession after the re-start and almost broke the deadlock in the 69th minute.

Miroslav Klose nodded Hernanes' cross towards the far post and his effort was saved by Mirante.

On the hour mark, Cristian Zaccardo got past his marker but struck wide from a good position.

Lazio finally broke through in the 84th minute following a fantastic run by Klose.

Substitute Libor Kozak got a touch on Klose's perfect cross and his effort rebounded off the crossbar. Sculli then tapped the rebound into the back of the net.
