MILAN (AP)—Roma coach Luis Enrique is set to forgive Mauro Tassotti 17 years after the former Italy international broke his nose.
Tassotti, now an assistant coach at AC Milan, elbowed Luis Enrique in Italy’s 1994 World Cup quarterfinal victory over Spain.
However, ahead of Milan’s crunch clash at Rome, Luis Enrique insists it is all in the past, saying “I know that he is sorry for what he did and I’ll shake his hand.”
Luis Enrique reportedly lost a pint of blood in the incident and Tassotti was subsequently banned for eight matches by FIFA.
