Siena 2 - 0 Cesena - Siena pile misery on Cesena

Siena enjoyed only their second win of the Serie A season as a 2-0 victory heaped more misery on bottom side Cesena.

Goals early in each half from Pablo Gonzalez and Emanuele Calaio clinched the points for the hosts, who took full advantage of a Cesena team without suspended striker Adrian Mutu.

The Romanian is serving the first of a three-match ban for punching Mattia Cassani in last weekend's goalless draw with Fiorentina.

Cesena seemed to feel Mutu's absence at the start and were trailing with just nine minutes on the clock thanks to a superb solo effort from Gonzalez, in which the striker ran from the halfway line and into the area before planting a right-footed shot into the bottom right corner.

Gonzalez then forced a good save from Cesena goalkeeper Francesco Antonioli with a shot from distance as the home side looked to build on their lead.

Antonio Candreva carved out Cesena's first chance after 13 minutes, a drilled strike which tested goalkeeper Zeljco Brkic, while Marco Parolo came even closer for the visitors soon after when he skimmed the crossbar from 25 yards.

Confidence was beginning to grow in the Cesena team and Candreva came close to an equaliser after 34 minutes, with a powered long-range shot which beat Brkic but came back off the post.

Citaden Eder also put an effort wide from the edge of the area as Siena managed to hold on to their slender lead at the interval.

And Giuseppe Sannino's men were two goals to the good eight minutes after the restart following a lapse in concentration from Cesena's defence, which allowed Gonzalez to play in a pass to Calaio for an easy tap-in from six yards.

Gonzalez fired over the crossbar soon after as Siena once more asserted their authority, and Calaio followed with a similar chance which also flew over the target.

Cesena looked beaten now, but Antonioli prevented his side falling further behind 10 minutes from time by tipping away a cross-shot from Mariano de Almeida Angelo.
