Albion Rovers FC 1 : 0 Arbroath - Gemmell gives Albion win
Posted Saturday, October 22, 2011 by PA
John Gemmell's first goal of the season gave bottom-placed Albion a 1-0 victory over Arbroath.
Gemmell broke the deadlock in the 13th minute when he latched onto Christopher Boyle's through ball before drilling a low right-footed effort past Arbroath goalkeeper Darren Hill from 12 yards out.
Hill then tipped Anthony Stevenson's 25-yard driven effort round the post in the 26th minute.
Two minutes into the second half Hill was again on hand to deny Gemmell his second goal of the game with a great save after Gemmell had volleyed Boyle's cross goalwards.
Arbroath's best opportunity to equalise fell to Gavin Swankie but he saw his 58th-minute volley fantastically saved by Derek Gaston.
The Albion keeper also kept out Kieran McAnespie's header late on as the home side held on for the points.
