Salomon Kalou demands more football at Chelsea

SALOMON KALOU will not sign a new deal at Chelsea if he is only a bit-part player for Andre Villas-Boas.

The Ivory Coast striker, who is out of contract in the summer, said: "I want to stay but I also want to play more. Every player wants to have game time.

"It is not easy if you are not playing every weekend because, otherwise, how are you going to improve as a player?

"It's important to push yourself to the limit, that is what I'm looking to do."

Blues boss AVB has not named Kalou, 26, in the starting line-up for a Premier League game since August.

Arsenal and Everton are both monitoring his situation and the African star is unlikely to be short of offers if he fails to agree a new contract.

He added: "Chelsea are looking to the future but I am still young and I think my future can be here.

"I like Chelsea. I have had five fantastic seasons here and won some prizes.

"We are still talking about my contract and I hope we can agree on something good."

Kalou joined Blues for £5million from Feyenoord in 2006 and has scored 55 goals in all competitions for the club.

But he came off the bench against Genk again on Wednesday with Blues already 4-0 up.

Kalou's goal moments after replacing Frank Lampard was his first of the season but he admitted: "It is not easy going on when the result is safe.

"But it is the manager who picks the team and every player must respect his decision.

"Now I just hope I can play more."
