Manchester United face competition for Paulo Henrique Ganso's signature, after it emerged AC Milan are lining up a January transfer window bid for the Brazil midfielder.
United are believed to be monitoring the 21-year-old's progress at Santos, with a view to adding him to the exciting young squad Sir Alex Ferguson is building.
Paulo Henrique Ganso is a target for Manchester United and AC Milan
The first is price, as the player has a £40million buyout clause in his contract and Santos have made it clear they will only consider offers worth more than half of that figure.
United would also have to persuade Ganso that his future lies in England, rather than Italy.
AC Milan have made no secret of their desire to land one of the rising stars of South American football and are ready to open the bidding with a £21million offer in January, reports Gazzetta dello Sport.
A move to the San Siro would allow the youngster to link-up with his international team-mates Alexandre Pato, Thiago Silva and Robinho.
There are also three Brazilians at Old Trafford - Anderson and the Da Silva brothers - but they are less prominent in the national squad set-up than the Rossoneri trio.
Both United and Milan will, however, be concerned about reports that Qatari-backed Paris Saint-Germain are also considering making a move for Ganso.
