Arsenal legend Ray Parlour slams Rooney red card

Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has slammed Wayne Rooney for his red card during England's 2-2 draw with Montenegro.

The Manchester United striker was sent off for kicking out at Montenegro's Miodrag Dzudovic in their Euro 2012 qualifier, which means he will be suspended for the Three Lion's first game of the tournament next year.

The sending off also means that Rooney has now been sent off twice while wearing his national colours, the same as ex-England captainDavid Beckham, and speaking to talkSPORT, Parlour was not impressed by Rooney's antics.

He said: "Wayne Rooney is a fantastic player but he'll wake up this morning and think ‘what was I thinking of?"

The ex-England player, also known as the "Romford Pele" to Arsenal fans, continued: "Sometimes he chases people and you know something is going to happen but you can't really take that out of his game because he wouldn't be the player he is.

"He's just got to learn that you can't do that in international football.

Parlour believes that Rooney will need to learn from how Beckham controlled himself while wearing the armband for the Three Lions, adding: "David Beckham learnt very quickly and I'm just hoping that Wayne Rooney can walk away from this and go ‘I've learnt my lesson now'.

"He let himself down last night and he'll be the first to admit that, he had that little bit of red mist and it was needless."

The 38-year-old Englishman was with Arsenal from 1989 to 2004, and won the Premier League title thrice, as well as lifted the FA Cup on four occasions with the North London club.
