Cesena 0 : 0 Chievo - Cesena off the mark

Cesena picked up their first point of the season with a 0-0 home draw against Chievo but should have claimed a victory.

The hosts went into the contest at the Dino Manuzzi stadium with nothing to show for their efforts from the first four games of the season but could have taken the lead when they were awarded a penalty in the second half.

However, Adrian Mutu saw his effort saved by Chievo goalkeeper Stefano Sorrentino.

Cesena coach Marco Giampaolo will nevertheless be pleased with his team's enterprising display against a Chievo side that offered little.

The home team created the first chance early on when Antonio Candreva fed Roberto Guana in the area but his 10-yard effort was off target.

Cesena should have taken a 12th-minute lead as Luca Ceccarelli sent the ball into the box but Abdelkader Ghezzal's header went just wide of the far post.

Chievo's first and only chance of the game arrived in the 27th minute when Sergio Pellissier's volley was saved by Cesena goalkeeper Nicola Ravaglia.

Cesena continued to press forward and could have gone ahead on the stroke of half-time, but Candreva's powerful drive from outside the area was kept out by Chievo goalkeeper Stefano Sorrentino.

Early in the second half, Mutu's 10-yard attempt was saved by Sorrentino.

Cesena were handed a golden chance to go in front on the hour mark. Bostjan Cesar brought down Erjon Bogdani inside the area and was shown a yellow card.

Mutu stepped up and struck towards the bottom left corner, only for his effort to be met by a diving Sorrentino.

Despite the setback, the hosts did not give up and could have snatched three points four minutes from time had Citadin Eder's 10-yard shot not gone wide of the far post.
