Frank Lampard: I’d never do what Carlos Tevez did
The England star said: "United and City have started off so quickly this season so we are already looking out for the results of our title rivals.

"Normally you only start thinking about what the other teams are doing in the later stages of the competition, but this time we know we can't afford to let the top two get too far away from us.

"That's what happened last season. We left ourselves with a big hill to climb and it was too much for us to come back from.

"Until recently it was usually the same three teams challenging at the top of the table.

"But now we've got Manchester City as a major force with the money they've spent and squad they've assembled, we've got Liverpool buying themselves right back into the equation and Tottenham are also right there ready to challenge.

"We all joke about how we would prefer it to be an easy three points every week but it should never be a doddle to win the Premier League and I think we're all happy to be a part of the strongest league in the world.

"We don't want to win at a canter, we all welcome the challenge. So now we're in a situation where we have to win all your home bankers and then try to take three points every time we play away as well.

"Chelsea are on a good run at the moment — despite that strange result at Old Trafford — and we have to keep it going against Bolton on Sunday."

And while Manchester City's billionaires threaten to implode in a maelstrom of bitter in-fighting at the Etihad Stadium, Lampard knows that keeping everyone working for the same cause will be a huge factor in determining the outcome of the title race as Chelsea bid to reclaim the crown they won in 2010.

He added: "We have to look at what happened last season and admit that we probably didn't react as much as we should have done when we went through that poor run of results.

"We have to guard against it this time because we won't win anything if we allow that to happen again.

"But we're a very tight group at Chelsea and we have a good mixture of some fresh young faces and us more experienced players.

"There's also a new management team that everyone is trying to impress but what we need most of all is the for the spirit to be good."
