Afellay to have operation on left knee

Barcelona says its Dutch international midfielder Ibrahim Afellay will have an operation on his injured left knee on Monday.

Afellay tore a ligament in his knee during training last Thursday. Club doctors did not say how long he will be sidelined.

The 25-year-old Afellay has only played twice this season after recovering from a torn muscle during preseason.

He had been expected to help fill in for the injured Alexis Sanchez.
