Ayr Utd. 1 : 0 Queen of South - Roberts lifts Ayr
Posted Saturday, September 24, 2011 by PA
Ayr lifted themselves off the bottom of the table as a late Mark Roberts goal gave them a 1-0 win over Queen of the South.
United, who recorded a historic victory against Hearts in the Scottish League Cup in midweek, had the best of the opening stages, with Michael Moffat stinging the palms of Lee Robinson from close range.
Queen of the South rarely threatened, with Scott McLaughlin's long-range shot that sailed harmlessly wide among their best efforts.
Ayr continued to dominate after the break, but it seemed that Robinson's heroics would earn his side a point as he made a string of good saves.
But with seven minutes left, Roberts latched onto James McKernan's throughball and calmly slotted home to secure the win.
