WARNING ... Kenny Dalglish
KENNY DALGLISH has warned his old guard they will be judged on form not reputation.
Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard could be back on the bench at Tottenham tomorrow after six months out with a groin problem.
Meanwhile, fellow mainstay Jamie Carragher has had a shaky start to the season.
With money spent in the summer to bolster the squad in their positions, the days when the pair were automatic choices may be over.
Boss Dalglish is in no doubt about the contribution Gerrard, 31, and Carragher, 33, have made for more than a decade.
But he said: "Nobody will get picked for their history. The people who have been involved with the club for a long time would expect that.
"They would not want it. They have got extremely high standards set for themselves.
"If they didn't, they wouldn't be here and wouldn't have had the success they have had."
But Dalglish insisted their contributions to Liverpool would never be overlooked, adding: "Maybe unintelligent people need to be reminded about it.
"But our people know what they have done for the football club."
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has revealed he was interested in signing Liverpool new boys Andy Carroll, Luis Suarez and Stewart Downing.
Redknapp admitted: "We were in for them at different times over the last few years.
"We didn't quite push the boat out but they are good players."
