Cagliari vs Novara preview - Biondini urges against complacency

I have a say

Cagliari midfielder Davide Biondini has warned his team-mates not to let their positive start to the season go to their heads.

The Sardinians, who face promoted side Novara on Saturday at the Sant'Elia stadium, enjoyed a 2-1 triumph at Roma on the opening day of the campaign.

It was a welcome start, particularly given their poor form on the road last term, when they won just four of 19 away games.

Biondini is expecting better things this term from a squad which he believes has a useful blend of youth and experience, although he knows they must not get carried away.

"This year there is a good mix of youngsters and experienced players," Biondini said. "We have a good group which should be able to record some good results.

"But we must keep our feet firmly on the ground and continue to work hard because this is just the beginning.

"It's going to be a battle. I saw Novara's game against Chievo and they seemed a squad in good form.

"But this is the first game in front of our home fans this season and we hope to give them a good show."

Novara travel to Sardinia inspired by their 2-2 draw to Chievo in Verona.

Attilio Tesser's side fought back from 2-0 down to claim a well-earned point.

However, Tesser knows his team is in for a testing time this weekend.

"A tricky opponent awaits us," he said. "But I think we can do well against any team."

Novara are still without injured striker Riccardo Meggiorini.
