Mourinho: Failed to land the title in his first season as Real boss, but remains upbeat
Jose Mourinho claims the 2010/11 campaign was his best as a coach, despite seeing Real Madrid land just one piece of silverware.
Real won the Copa del Rey, but saw arch-rivals Barcelona pick up the Primera Liga title and UEFA Champions League crown.
Mourinho is a man used to success following trophy-laden spells at Porto, Chelsea and Inter Milan.
He is, however, of the opinion that last season saw him scale new heights, with Real having challenged on multiple fronts.
"Those who say it was the first time I did not win the league in my debut season are right, but it was my best tournament ever," Mourinho told Lusa.
Reality
"It was the championship in which I won more points, won more games and scored more goals.
"It was a very, very good championship.
"The reality is that we were second, won the cup and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League. So it ended up being a good season, good for the first."
Mourinho has also played down Real's failure to land a marquee signing over the summer.
The Portuguese coach was busy bringing in fresh faces, with full-back Fabio Coentrao among them, but he believes 'radical changes in the first team' were not required.
