Spurs 'worried Luka Modric will join Man United or Chelsea in January'

Reports suggest that officials at the north London club believe the Blues, who bid £40million for Modric on deadline day, and fellow admirers United will return to battle it out for the Croatian playmaker's signature.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy knocked back several bids for Modric from Chelsea, but given the player's well-publicised comments calling for a move to Stamford Bridge, Andre Villas-Boas is not expected to give up his pursuit of the 25-year-old.
Luka Modric is still a Spurs player for now
Sir Alex Ferguson is also keen on the player and, having missed out on Wesley Sneijder in the summer, could attempt to outbid their Premier League rivals when clubs are allowed to trade again after the turn of the year.
Modric was not Sir Alex Ferguson's top target for a new midfielder in August, but now Samir Nasri - who was the subject of a late bid from Old Trafford - has joined Manchester City, it could persuade the Scot to reconsider his options.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp told the Evening Standard his side are now 'strong in the middle of the park' due to the arrival of Scott Parker from West Ham United and the emergence of youngster Jake Livermore.
Parker completed his move to White Hart Lane earlier this week in a deal thought to be worth £6million.
And now that the ranks are well stocked it could persuade Redknapp to cash in on his wantaway star - especially if he shows any signs of petulance or despondency in the coming months.
