Chivas coach pleased with Ulises Davila signing with Chelsea

Following in the footsteps of Javier Hernandez, Carlos Vela and Carlos Salcido, former Chivas de Guadalajara youngster Ulises Davila is headed to the Premier League.

Davila signed a five-year deal with Chelsea in the final week of this summer's transfer window after impressing the club while playing with Mexico's U-20 World Cup team. Days later, he was sent to Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem on a season-long loan.

Chivas coach Jose Luis Real may have lost the attacker but his club continued to gain credibility and recognition from around the world after providing another one of England's biggest teams with another one of Mexico's best prospects.

"The sale of Ulises Davila is, for us, a great honor that fills us with pride," he said. "The fact that a Chivas player could go to a team as important as Chelsea is great.

"As you know, if Guadalajara buys a player, it has to be an extraordinary buy. The same goes with sales. If we sell a player, the buyer needs to be extraordinary. He has a great future and lots of talent. We're convinced that Davila going to Chelsea is a benefit to all."

The 20-year-old Davila emerged from the same Chivas academy that produced several big names - most notably Chicharito, who helped lead Manchester United to the Premier League title last season.

Davila's former teammate Patricio Araujo, a U-17 World Champion with Mexico in 2005, also expressed his happiness for all the former Chivas players moving on to bigger and better leagues and would like to move on as well.

"I'm very happy for them," Araujo said. "The first chance I get to go to Europe I'd love to go through with it. Meanwhile, I must think about my team and wait for my moment. I'd love to go to either club [Chelsea or Man U] in the future, if possible."
