Rob Beasley: It’s the naked truth for Arsene Wenger
OUCH ... Wenger sees United make mincemeat of his Arsenal boys

ARSENE WENGER could not be more degraded if he sat naked during this massacre.

Because this was not just his heaviest defeat, it was a shocking Emperor's New Clothes moment.

A shocking realisation for even the youngest child to understand.

Wenger's continual dressing up of his young team as contenders is now exposed as a total and utter sham.

We've all suspected it for a while but now can shout it from the rooftops.

It was there for the whole world to see and any number of excuses and explanations cannot cover up the naked truth.

Injuries, suspensions, post-Champions League fatigue, a missed penalty, bad luck and a harsh red card just won't wash — and every Arsenal fan knows it.

They pay top dollar to watch this team at the Emirates and the increasing number of protest banners around the stadium speak for themselves. They feel ripped off.

Add a £250 day out to Manchester to suffer this and you can understand the resentment.

The supporters are digging deep for their team but when is their club going to mirror their commitment to the cause?

Predictably the only man still blinded to it all is the man himself.

And that could ultimately prove his downfall.

Maybe not today, although United fans gleefully taunted him with, "You're getting sacked in the morning!" But the unthinkable must now be on the agenda.

Yes Wenger has achieved much at Arsenal — winning trophies, playing beautiful football and grooming great talents.

And he firmly believes those past glories earn him the right to understanding and patience from his board, his fans and his critics during these difficult days.

But it's not difficult days anymore. It's six long years without silverware — and counting. The beautiful football is no more and the great production line is grinding to a halt.

This is serious, Arsene. So serious even your perennial sparring partner Alex Ferguson feels sorry for you — which translates into "I'm not worried about your team any more."

Enough. The time has come to act.

Surely Wenger has no option now but to go out and buy himself and his team some time by splashing the cash on some experienced recruits. A quality centre half, accomplished midfielder and penalty box predator.

Just announcing the capture of Korean forward Park Chu-Young from Monaco in a £10m deal is nowhere near enough.

The man has banked £65m from the sales of Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy and assured a further £25m by qualifiying for the Champions League.

Wenger won't blow the lot of course, nowhere near, and come Christmas he and Arsenal could be counting the cost.
