Fulham and Newcastle United are set to battle it out for the signature of Freiburg striker Papiss Cisse in the closing days of the transfer window.
The Senegal international has attracted interest from teams across Europe since scoring 22 Bundesliga goals last season and his club have given him a £13million price tag.
Freiburg officials have revealed that three sides have already made offers for the 26-year-old and one of them is believed to be Fulham.
They expect interest in Cisse to grow in the next few days and, according to German magazine Kicker, Newcastle are among the clubs set to lodge a bid.
Papiss Cisse could be on his way to England
Magpies boss Alan Pardew is known to be keen to sign a striker, but it was thought his top target was Sochaux's Mali international Modibo Maiga.
Meanwhile, Fulham are also set to step up their interest in FC Twente winger Nacer Chadli.
The Cottagers have had a £4.3 million bid for the 21-year-old winger rejected, but reports in the Netherlands suggest they are preparing an improved offer for the Belgium international.
