Former Brazil star Socrates has been admitted to hospital in his homeland with gastrointestinal bleeding.
Lancenet reports that the ex-Corinthians man was taken ill on Friday night, and will now undergo tests in a bid for recovery.
The 57-year-old is reported to have a digestive haemorrhage, and will be treated in the Intensive Care Unit of Albert Einstein hospital in Sao Paulo.
Portal hypertension is said to have caused the bleeding, which has also been a pre-cursor to liver disease.
As yet, the severity and chances of recovery for the Belem do Para man have not been revealed.
Socrates played 60 times for Brazil, scoring 22 goals, but was unlucky not to win a World Cup during his glittering career.
