Add Clarence Goodson to the names of United States international players who can’t participate in Jurgen Klinsmann’s first match as manager of the national team due to injury.
The 29-year-old center-back suffered a hamstring injury in his club Brondby’s 2-1 defeat to Odense BK in Denmark’s top division. With the news of the injury reaching Klinsmann close to tomorrow’s match against Mexico, the former Germany boss has decided to not call up a replacement. New York Red Bulls defender Tim Ream will likely start alongside Carlos Bocanegra in place of Goodson.
So far the U.S. has seen three of its potential starters called out due to injury as Maurice Edu and Timothy Chandler also were ruled out for the match against El Tri. Robbie Rogers and Zach Loyd have been called up as replacements.
The U.S. will now have 21 players for tomorrow's friendly match.
GOALKEEPERS (2): Bill Hamid (D.C. United), Tim Howard (Everton)
DEFENDERS (7): Carlos Bocanegra (Saint-Etienne), Edgar Castillo (Club America), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover 96), Zach Loyd (FC Dallas), Michael Orozco Fiscal (San Luis), Heath Pearce (Chivas USA), Tim Ream (New York Red Bulls)
MIDFIELDERS (7): Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Michael Bradley (Borussia Mönchengladbach), Ricardo Clark (Eintracht Frankfurt), Jermaine Jones (Schalke 04), Robbie Rogers (Columbus Crew), Brek Shea (FC Dallas), Jose Torres (Pachuca)
FORWARDS (5): Freddy Adu (Benfica), Juan Agudelo (New York Red Bulls), DaMarcus Beasley (Puebla), Edson Buddle (FC Ingolstadt), Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy)
